This post will help you understand the army physical test, its process, and passing criteria.
What is the army physical test in the initial tests?
The following exercises are included in the physical test at the initial stage.
- Running. 1.6 KM in 8 mints
- Pull-ups, 3 in 2 mints
- Sit-ups, 22 in 2 mints
- Push-ups, 22 in 2 mints
- Ditch Crossing, 7.5 feet
First, Candidates are called for a Running test and issued a token. Then you will be positioned to run in a single line. Running is 1.6 km or 1600 meters long. The time allotted for running is 08 minutes. 08 minutes are enough to Complete the 1.6 Km in time.

How to Clear the Running physical exam?
- Do practice running at homes
- Perform running exercises daily
- You can start practicing from slow speed to high speed building your stamina
Why do people fail in the Running test?
It is a running exercise test. Aspirants consider it as a Running competition test. Some aspirants put in extra effort and exhaust themselves which is not good for them. Exhaust mean, apnay aap ko bewaja thakana.
If you become tired in just one exercise, it is difficult to perform other exercises. So please, take this as a test and not a competition.
Things to do during the Running Test
- Warm up yourself before Running
- Warm-up will help your body for Running.
- Don’t take it as a competition to become first. Just observe the time and take your time.
- Start Slow running instead of sprinting.. i.e. Fast Running.
- Take breathe with your Nose instead of your mouth
- Do not look at the finishing point, Just absorb yourself in some positive thinking and Run.
- If you run along with another person at the same speed, step by step, You will not feel tired
- Run fast at the last minute.
- After finishing the line, do some light exercise

2. Pull-Ups
Remember there is a difference between a chin-up and a pull-up.
For chin–ups, you grip the bar with your palms facing you,
on the other hand in pull–ups, you grip the bar with your palms facing away from you.
In the following Picture, the Left-hand side is pull-ups.

3. Sit-ups
Sitting up does not mean standing and sitting down. The setup is demonstrated in the following. Your Feet are fixed and you have to reach up and down. This is also called reach-ups.

After push-ups, you will perform the Ditch crossing
Tips for Ditch Crossing
- There are 02 chances to clear the test. If you fail three times, then You will be declared fail in the physical test.
- You can perform easily in your home for ditch crossing.
- Just practice Long jumping at your time.
You are declared failed on the following occasions.
- If you failed the Running test ( there might be another chance, depending on the selection panel)
- if a candidate failed in push-ups, pull-ups, or other exercises, but there is also a chance that you will be given a chance and recalled after some time.
