The Training of GD Pilot

The Successful candidates who PASS the (i) general service training (ii) flying training (iii) academics are awarded the commission in the GD(P) Branch of the PAF. The graduation parade, a memorable experience for the Aviation Cadets, marks the end of their training at the Academy. They are now ready to join the Fighter Conversion Units where they further develop their flying skills on more demanding and advanced jet aircraft. After successfully completing the conversion, the budding pilots are taken a step further; through the Fighter Conversion Unit (FCU) and Operational Conversion Unit (OCU), where they learn to master the frontline combat aircraft of the PAF. In these units, the pilots are subjected to the most critical and formative stages of training. Here, for the first time, they are taught skills without which they cannot survive, an eagle-eyed ability to search the sky of the enemy, “dogfights” with simulated “enemy” aircraft, and the skill to shoot accurately.

After achieving the desired standards of proficiency in the fighter and operational conversion phases, the officers are now qualified to join the frontline combat squadrons of the Air Force as young operational pilots. It is in these squadrons that they truly grow into air warriors, a closely-knit combat team, getting airborne in their highly lethal supersonic machines to practice air combat maneuvering, weapons delivery, tactical air support to land forces, and many other types of wartime flying. In these squadrons, they continue to strive day and night towards a higher level of professional skill so that they may remain ready to follow in the glorious footsteps of their predecessors.


The profession of a combat pilot in the PAF is challenging and thrilling. The young men/women, The PAF requires must possess a high level of intelligence, sound judgment, awareness, alertness, strong nerves, self-confidence, and relentless determination to become combat pilots. If you have these qualities, join the PAF, and shall train you to achieve your goal. The complexity of modern air warfare can only be mastered by those who can understand, interpret and aggressively utilize the advantage of sophisticated devices and weapons.

The PAF broadens your mental horizon by training you on the best of equipment using the finest training aids. As a result, you not only become a young combat pilot but also attain high educational standards by earning yourself a degree.

GENERAL DUTIES (PILOT) BRANCH (Permanent Commission and Short Service Commission)

Height: Minimum 163 cm (both Male & Female)
Age Limit:
Fsc Course: PC 16-22 years
Graduate Course: SSC 18-30 years
Serving personnel: 16-23 years
Nationality:
Male/Female Citizens of Pakistan (Candidates With dual nationality will have to surrender their foreign nationality upon joining the course Other Wise their candidature will be canceled)

Educational Qualification

FSc(PC) Course: F.Sc (Pre-Medical/Pre-Engg/Computer Sciences)
With 50% marks in aggregate or 50% aggregate in
‘A’ Level with Physics and Maths or Biology
(”O” Level in five subjects)
Graduate Course: B.Sc with 2nd Division

Marital Status:
Unmarried

Training Period:
F.Sc Course (PC): 3 years training at PAF Academy, Risalpur 2 years As Aviation Cadet and one year as Pilot Officer
Graduate Course (SSC): 1½ years training at PAF Academy, Risalpur as an
Aviation Cadet

Rank: Flying Officer (Equivalent to Lieutenant in ARMY)
Selection Criteria
On successful completion of training, the Aviation Cadets are graduated in
the temporary rank of Flying Officer.

  • Registration at PAF Information & Selection Centres.
  • Intelligence Test followed by Academic Test in Physics & English through e-Testing at PAF Information & Selection Centres.
  • Interview and Preliminary Medical examination at PAF Information & Selection Centres.
  • Psychological Test at PAF Information & Selection Centres for SSC candidates Only.
  • Test/interview at ISSB Kohat/Gujranwala/Malir for PC candidates only.
  • Interview by Air Headquarters Selection Board for SSC candidates only.
  • Final medical examination by Central Medical Board, PAF Masroor.
  • Flying Aptitude Test (FAT).
  • The final selection in order of merit by Air Headquarters.

    1. February – March me Course announce hoga. Apko social media or Newspaper me ad milay gi.. Us pe dates likhi hwi hongi, k kab apny ap ko online register karna hay? Online registration karke, apko Test date militi hay, and you have to appear on that date for the test.

  2. My percentage is 60 in Fsc part 1 but I have a supply in chemistry paper.can I apply for GDP piolot in PAF with hope certificate

    1. No, Unfortunately You can not apply on the basis of hope certificate. Hope certificate needs at least 65% marks. You should work hard and maintian at least 60% in Your Fsc and after the completion of your Fsc, you can apply foe the gd Pilot.

    1. Dear Farrukh, You will get 7-20 (Maximum) days after getting your letter. Generally, the Post office delivers late, So you should constantly check your ISSB Call letter through Online Portal.
