Topic 6: The No.1 Reason Why Mostly candidates get Not-recommended

non-recommendation in ISSB tests

ISSB Evaluate more than 20 thousand candidates for the three services. Among these candidates less than 2 to 5 % of candidates get recommendations. What does it mean? Is it because our armed forces hire a very little number of officers? The answer is No. We will explain the main reason behind non-recommendation in ISSB tests in this post.

ISSB has its own criteria for officer selection. They recommend as many candidates, as much candidate fulfill that criteria. If they require 200 cadets, it does not mean they will recommend 200 or 250 candidates. ISSB have a standardized criteria for ISSB recommendation. Every one who fulfill that criteria, will get recommended.

You might seen, many people who get recommended but they are not selected in the final merit list. Final Merit list is a different thing than ISSB recommendations. Final Criteria is based on your Academic career, Your Initial Test performance, Your ISSB Performance Plus an upper edge if someone have Blood relative in the armed forces in officer rank.

Lets, come to the topic, why so many candidates get not recommended in such a huge number. As I discussed earlier, only 2 to 5 % of candidates get recommendations, the remaining 95% to 98% of candidates get not recommended.

Question is the What is the Main Reason?

For me, All Non-recommended candidates have one common trait. It is Thinking from one side. In Urdu, we called it “Tasveer ki EK rukh dekhna“. Seeing things from one side. Some might called it “Narrow Thinking”

Let me explain this through an example.

When I give a topic to my ISSB aspirants about the lecture or a group discussion. They always discussed the “One side” which is negative. It is very easy to discuss the negativity of an issue. However, positivity needs broad thinking.

“Should our country, Take a foriegn Loan from IMF or world Bank?”

“The Role of Media in our society”

Maximum candidates express them negatively and narrowly. As I discussed earlier, It is easier for our Pakistani brains to detect negativity than the positivity.

The bad thing is that, this pattern of negativity and narrow thinking is also evident from the Psych tests which the candidates submit on the psych day. This trends continue in GTO as well. In the group tasks, Candidates only thinks for his or her recommendation, they forget about the team work, cooperation and leading other group members. So there is a pattern build by the candidate. Eventually when the three Board members discuss the candidate performance, they reach one conclusion. i.e, Non Recommendation.

Remember, If you want to get recommended, you must be a positive thinker with broad views. Imagine, How a person can command on other people with narrow and negative thinking. If a person is himself negative and lack positivity, How he can lead a group of people?

Note: Positive or Broad thinking is not only thing for ISSB recommendations, But certainly, It is a very Important factor for Selection in ISSB Tests.

How to create positive thinking?

  • by Reading good books
  • watching tv program that offers broad views on a certain topic
  • Read Quran with translation
  • try to see both sides of a picture, everything has positivity in it
