Group Discussion topic: UOL couple Proposal

Recently a couple proposed to each other in front of more than a hundred people standing around and making videos. The video started a debate on social media, some people defending the couple while others are criticizing. University management issued notice to the students for expelling from the university. After few days Human rights commission raised their voice and they directed the university management to review their decision.

This was all about the story. The above incident might be faced by the ISSB candidates in form of

1. Group Discussion topic
2. In form of a lecture topic
3. In the form of Interview questions by the Deputy President. The Deputy president might ask about your own expression about the event.

Question: Couple did wrong or Right?

The couple is both adults and they have every right to propose to each other. So If we are talking about the proposal it is not bad. Our religion Islam does not restricts somebody to propose to someone and to live a happy life.

If the couple was not wrong Then Why people are criticizing them?

The people who are criticizing or angry not because they propose to each other, but they did it publicly making a video breaking the social norms. Our social Norms do not allow to propose a girl in from of hundred people and not just proposing but Hugging. Hugging in the public is against the Islamic and Pakistani social norms. So the people who are criticizing are right in their own context.

Recently in India Vs Australia Series, A couple proposed to each other in front of the crowd. Frankly speaking, why our social media did not react negatively to that event? Because it was acceptable to Australian social norms.
What are social norms? Social norms are how people live in a society. Social norms are the customs and rules of society.

There are many people who supported the couple and raise their voices not to expel the student from university. Their stance is that they haven’t made a crime? What do you say?

Yes, Many celebrities were supporting the couple. But let me remind you, Yes they did not made a crime to propose to each other. But they did crime by creating hurdles for other girls to earn admission in universities. If they did not make videos and Hugging publically, Univesity will never order to expel them.

Think about the girls living in the rural areas of Pakistan. In our Society, Parents decide whether to send their girl to university or not. We should think, that this video will have an impact on the minds of the people who are living in the less educated districts of Pakistan, DG khan, Rajan Pur, Many districts of KPK, Sindh & Balochistan.

Girls literacy are already lagging behind in Pakistan. So this type of occurrence will create more hurdles for girl higher education specially in the rural population in Pakistan.

I personally think that this type of occurrence should not be repeated. Otherwise, this will have a deep impact on girls’ education.

Why will ISSB Panel ask about the event?

ISSB panel might ask about the event due to following reasons.
1. To check Candidate maturity and social values
2. Some candidates will show aggression; Like Goli mar deni chahaye thee.
3. Some candidates might get confused.
